History of the Stonewall Riots, Stories of Pride and May Meeting @ Market Avenue Wine Bar
May 16 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Join us for a paneled discussion on the history of the Stonewall riots as we come up on their 50th anniversary this June. They are a vital part of our history and the namesake of the Cleveland Stonewall Democrats.

“The Stonewall riots were a crucial, era-defining moment in the struggle for equality.

In the early hours of June 28 1969, a gay bar in the West Village of Manhattan became the epicenter of an event that changed the course of LGBT history.

The days of riots which followed the uprising against police who frequently targeted The Stonewall Inn along with other gay bars were momentous.

Led by prominent activists Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, who were trans women of color, the riots sparked an entire civil rights movement, and the reason why we celebrate Pride Month in June.” – Lydia Smith, Pink News

***Panelists to be announced shortly.

Cleveland Equality Act Training! @ CCDP Headquarters
May 25 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

One’s civil rights shouldn’t depend on the state or zip code they live in. But today, if an LGBTQ person drove from Maine to Los Angeles, their rights would change dozens of times.

This is why we need the Equality Act!

This major legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives a few weeks ago — and we’ve got to push it forward. The Equality Act would finally guarantee federal protections for LGBTQ people, protecting us from discrimination.

Learn how to discuss the Equality Act with your friends, family and your US Representative. We will be introducing how the Equality Act is necessary to advance protections for the LGBTQ community and how we get started with Action, Now.
